How to Catch Fireflies
I'm so glad you're here!
This space is where to come for tidbits... my thoughts on photography, life and the universe.
Many years ago I cut out a photo from the back cover of Reader's Digest and I've carried that photo with me as inspiration for over 20 years, long before I even thought of becoming a photographer. It's a photo by the artist, Keith Carter, titled "Fireflies". Check it out here: "Fireflies" by Keith Carter
I love the photo for many reasons. He captured a childhood moment that I feel is common to us all. It is a moment of discovery, wonder and play. There is mystery, relationship and room for the onlooker to fill in the blanks with their own experience.
Photography is a bit like catching fireflies. I am constantly trying to capture a moment and revel in it...to find relationship and wonder in everyday happenings. And when I get it right it's a joyful thing. Our lives are constantly in motion, but a well-timed photograph can keep that moment in a jar for us.
The photo below is mine. My sons with a friend chasing bubbles. It's a favorite.
